The US Department of Justice has declared the cities of Portland, Seattle and New York to be lawless zones because of the continuing unrest. This could have legal ramifications for the mayors of these cities who are not stopping those unrest. Canadian Justice Minister disagrees.

By Arnold. In a statement Monday, the US Department of Justice announced the next step to fight the unrest in some cities. It reads: “The U.S. Department of Justice today identified the following three jurisdictions that have permitted violence and destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures to counteract criminal activities: New York City; Portland, Oregon; and Seattle, Washington.”
Other cities will soon also be added to this list, unless the local politicians – in particular the mayors, who are usually Democrats – take measures to restore security and order. If the appropriate measures are not taken in the three cities mentioned above as well as other cities such as Chicago and Minneapolis, the 14th Amendment will come into force, according to the announcement by the Justice Department.
Canadian Justice Minister David Lametti was concerned protesters in those cities would now have their rights violated. “This is clearly designed to further marginalize blacks and uphold white supremacy in these cities. President Trump should not be allowed to continue on in this manner,” he told reporters. Casey Byrne of the Canadian Centre for Political Theory disagreed, stating that “law and order are the fundamental basis of a functioning society, of which these Marxists are very aware.”
The events in the cities concerned are seen as an uprising against the continued existence of the USA as a unified state. Mayors, governors, judges, and lawmakers who participated in these riots can then be arrested and tried in federal court.
It is still just an announcement from the Justice Department. But if the unrest that already exists after a Trump election victory in November should widen, the judiciary is prepared to counter the “Operation Chaos” announced by leftist groups such as Antifa and the Marxist Black Lives Matters movement.
