The richest people in the world got even richer because of the Coronavirus; 2020 was a record year for them. This according to the “Billionaires Report” for 2020, which was recently published by PwC. Number 1 is Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, the mail order company that pays no taxes in Canada and exploits its employees.
The richest people in the world got even richer in 2020, a year which is now drawing to a close. The ten richest people in the world currently own 1.086 trillion US dollars, 40 percent more than at the beginning of the year. This is what it says in the “Billioniares Report” recently published by PwC. However, they do not owe this capital increase to innovative business ideas, the development of new products or higher sales figures. No, the world’s richest businessman, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has grown his fortune by another $70 billion to over $200 billion because conventional trade has collapsed in many nations as a result of the rampant lockdown pandemic and so the online and mail order business is booming like never before.
Amazon is making a huge mess for independent retailers, especially here in Canada, but goes to extremes before paying the taxes due and also exploits its employees to the point of blood. The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) named Amazon boss Jeff Bezos the “worst employer in the world” – but this did not prevent him from becoming the first person in history with a fortune of more than 200 billion US dollars a few days ago. Tesla founder Elon Musk follows in second place by a considerable margin. He only has 155 billion US dollars.
The ten richest people in the world own $ 1.086 trillion. For comparison: the gross domestic product (GDP) of Canada this year is 1.59 trillion US dollars with a population of almost 40 million people.
